I began experiencing severe menopausal symptoms approximately two years ago. My gynecologist put me on a birth control pill "to get an influx of estrogen" before he even took a blood test to see if I was in an estrogen deficiency  mode. I am a 53 year old woman who started menopause at the age of 46/47. My doctor prescribed synthetic estrogen to help with the symptoms of hot flashes.  The estrogen prescribed was not helping with the uncomfortable side effects of menopause and I had concerns when I read that synthetic hormones may cause cancer.
During the years of taking synthetic estrogen my sleep patterns changed and I found it more and more difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep.  My skin, which use to be soft, became dry and painful.
